Oğuz Demir

Oğuz Demir graduated from Istanbul University Department of Economics and got his master degree at Istanbul Commerce University in the Department of International Trade.

He continued his Ph.D. preparatory program in Economics and Finance at University of Naples Federico II in Italy and completed his doctorate in economics at Istanbul University.

From 2002 to 2004, he served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Economists Platform. During this period he was responsible for regional development studies, Anatolian Organization, European Union and international projects. In the same period, he took a part-time job in the business development department of Turkcell Shubuo packages and then joined European Union Project Development studies in Istanbul Bilgi University for a short time. He directed the preparation process of the European Union-funded Democracy and Human Rights Films demonstration project.

Following this project, he contributed to the provision of resources of close to 10 million Euros from the EU for the projects he has carried out with the chambers, stock markets, local governments and NGOs in many regions of Anatolia and he served as manager in the execution of these projects. Between 2003 – 2004 he served as Deputy Secretary General of the Turkish Democracy Foundation.

Oguz Demir, who continued his project development studies for the European Union financial aid programs in this position, briefly served as a member of the editorial board of the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly magazine Turkishtime. Oguz Demir, who worked as Project Development Officer of Turkey Young Businessmen Association (TÜGİAD), still continues to collaborate in TÜGİAD’s various research and projects. In January 2005, Demir participated in academic life as the Secretary General of the European Union Center for Application and Research at Istanbul Commerce University.

During this period, he actively participated to non-governmental organizations such as Economic Development and Social Progress Association (İKTİSAD – Chairman of the Board of Directors), Society and Economy Politics Institute (TEPE – Board Member), Local Administrations Research and Development Association (MİARGED – Board Member) and Oğuz Demir has been serving as the Chairperson of the Economists Platform since January 2006.

Demir, which has published articles on various topics, such as Akşam Gazetesi, TÜGİAD Panorama and İTKİB Hedef Magazine, has been regularly writing articles about the EU financial aids in Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and İTOVİZYON magazines since May 2006.

On the other hand, Oguz Demir contributed to the content of national TV show entitled “Guide to SME Support” broadcasted in Bloomberg HT between November 2010 – November 2013.

Demir has two books published by the Istanbul Commerce University and Eastern Black Sea Municipalities Association on EU Financial Aid and Regional Development issues. Oguz Demir contributes as a manager and consultant to many projects carried out by local governments, local government associations, chambers, stock markets, business associations, non-governmental organizations and SMEs. Oğuz Demir continues his theoretical and practical studies on Regional Development, International Economics and Governance. Oğuz Demir was awarded by Turkey’s Most Successful Ten-Senate Special Award in 2012 by JCI.
